HW/SW Co-design of Real-time Video Applications Using a Custom Configurable Prototyping Platform

In this paper, a modular, configurable and versatile prototype platform for real-time video and image processing is presented. Based on the FPGA technology and a RISC softcore processor for data processing, the platform supports simultaneous HW/SW co-design and partitioning. This reduces application design cycle and shortens design iterations, especially considering the later design steps. As examples, applications of two different algorithms for motion detection are presented.
